Carina Randløv

Ordnung in Zwielicht, 2002

This site-specific artwork develops the researches started with the installation Ordnung in Zwielicht (2002), conceived by Carina Randløv for the homonymous exposition at the Württembergischer Kunstverein of Stuttgart (the exposition took its name by the famous essay of the philosopher Bernhard Waldensfeld, in which he talked about order - ‘ordnung’ in german - not as a subsequent state of the undefined, the formless and the cahotic, but as a condition that holds all of these elements, in the same way the twilight – ‘zwielicht’ – holds light and shadow). The architectonic space of the Castle of San Vito al Tagliamento lead the artist to believe that it was necessary to consider again the materials of the installation: not only electric cables, but also a light bulb, little assemblings connected to the cables and an overhead projector that screens on the wall the painting of a net of electric cables. The purposes of this installation are the same of the one in 2002: to show disorderly what is inside the wall of a building, that is an ordered net of electric cables with specific characteristics. Differently from Ordnung in Zwielicht – here the electric cables were literally vomited from the walls, the ceiling, the floor and were useless – there the installation swich on an electric equipment (but the artist didn’t mention explicitly what are the connected cables). Randløv’s aim is to show, according to Waldensfeld’s theories, the structural order of the electric cables; infact she allotted blue color for the positve poles and red for the negative ones. Another aim of the artist is to investigate the meaning of her installation: where the artworks begins and where it stops? The electric cables are the connection between the overhead projector and the current-tap, or they are just the artwork itself?
