Cédric Hoareau

Court-circuit, 2008
Installazione, terra, materiali vari, dimensioni variabili

Cort-circuit is a site-specific device realized fot the rooms of the Castle of San Vito. The installation carries on some precedent Hoareau’s projects by focusing, more strictly, on the theme of energy and its dissipation. Chantier (2006), for istance, was realized for the Espace de Création Contemporaine R in Geneve: Hoareau disposed on the floor a mould area, full of devices made of assembled and found objects and mechanisms, in order to create an unuseful kinetic apparatus. The unceasing work of the devices produces sounds, lights, little displacement of materials without a common and logical purpose.

The recent installation Entropie (2008), shown at Espace d’expression La Fosse in Geneve, is the result of the cooperation with the architecture Oliver Krumm, specialized in mould constructions.

As Chantier, this work simulates a scientific laboratory that looks affectionately to the XVIII century esperiments in science and their undetermined and empiric attitude. The installation entails a microcosm where it is possible to observe some related events, an out of phase time with noisy movements, where micro-mechanisms transforms untidily the energy and their motion in an unproductive formula.

The focus on dissipation of energy is confirmed in Cort-circuit, an installation that uses the same kind of materials and mechanisms, like mould, water, light, bricks, small driving belt, little blades, thin mechanical beams, etc...

But in this case, Hoareau deals with the istantaneous and shocking dissipation of the short-circuit.
